Brazil has a 8.5 thousand km coastline with a variety of ecosystems that include coral reefs, dunes, mangroves, ponds, estuaries, and swamps. The variety of biomes reflects in the wealth of the Brazilian flora and fauna, making them the most varied in the world, with more than 20% of the total number of species. Brazil is a megadiverse country with many endemic species (exclusive to the country) and many plants with world economical importance. Among them, pineapple, peanut, Brazilian chestnut ("Castanha do Brasil"), cassava, cashew, and carnauba are native from Brazil.
