Logo and Mascot

Logo description

Our logo shows a circular shape that represents the Earth, the sun and the tropics, alluding to the characteristics of our agriculture conditions, with sunlight, water and soil in abundance. The wavy forms refer to the famous Copacabana sidewalk in reference to the place where the event will take place and the contour lines for crop production. The colors green, yellow and blue represents the colors of brazilian flag. The dark red represent our soils and also the color palette of the Brazilian Soil Science Society.

Mascot definition

By definition, mascot is a person, animal, or object used as a symbol to represent a group and to bring good luck. Besides the hard work, we count on good luck to make the 21WCSS a great moment in the history of world soil science. In addition, the mascot is an informal element of advertising that can be used for several things, including increasing awareness of the importance of soil and people who study this natural resource.

Our mascot in 2018

Armadillo: Soil biodiversity is the driving force behind the chemical and physical processes occurring in the soil that sustain life on the planet. Hans Jenny stated that organisms are one of the factors of soil formation. Among them, we emphasize the Armadillo as an agent of soil transformation, where it obtains shelter, protection and food. Our mascot, dressed in the traditional vest of the SBCS and carrying instruments of field and laboratory work, represents the Brazilian soil scientists, responsible for the biggest transformation of tropical agriculture of the planet. This Armadillo also represents the biodiversity of Brazilian soils that needs to be known and preserved. He is a natural pedologist of friable soils in the Cerrado and a worthy representative of our work and achievements.
